You're talking about the power supply?

If multiple components in the PC try and draw power at the same time you can experience lockups, errors, or your PC could reboot itself.

my cd are not getting power in my wifes set up and i have tried two set ups in it and they get power then thay shut off and do not come up in the start page

i when out and picked up a new cd for it but i think it is the power box/supply .

here is one.
if she has it set up to run higher than the power box can do will it not have things go off from not having the power to run them . so if you have 100 and you need power for 150 say will it not send the 50 out becouse it can not make it

would you go with it and get say a 200 box

or would it be the main Board

life is hard when the wife is pissed off becouse she can not play games and do work on hers

Technically you could have a dinky power supply in your PC and things would run just fine as long as they're not all running or drawing power at the same time. However if your CD Drives are not working or shutting down then your components may be trying to draw more power then can be supplied at one time.

I bought a new graphics card a few months back and it was explained to me that while playing a game you need a very stable supply of power. The graphics card, harddrive, Memory, Processor, and drive that the game is playing in could all be drawing power to play the game at the same time. Therefor it was extremely important for me to get a bigger power supply.

Now if you have a lot of things installed in the PC or connected externally that doesn't necessarily mean you need a bigger power supply, but if you're running them at the same time then you should have a bigger power supply.

Most premade computers dont come with a nice PSU, you get the bare minimum. And most computers nower days need at least 450w or higher. Thats where you start to spend your money, get a PSU that is more then enough for what you need, cuase most people will upgrade or add more drives, and that is where you run into PSU problems. I had to take a few harddrives out of my comp and i have a 550w in it.

Just built a new computer. AMD Athlon X2 4200+ with SLI motherboard. Unfortunately im only running an ASUS AX850XT Platinum Edition video card, and 2 gb of memory. I splurged and bought a very nice power supply, 550W, it cost me about 140$. PSU's are very important, you can buy one for around 40$ for what your trying to do, unless you have some heavy duty graphic cards, and powerful processors.

i think i will rip my supply out (450) send it to her cp and get a 550+

pgmaniac what did your cp cost to make?

if i send her my cp and make a new one what would i be looking at ? i would keep the dvd and cd set up from this one
then i would set hers up for a firewall/printer/game/mp3 cp that way i can do a game room with it

if i have a old cp here with a 100w can i run 2psu in to it to see if that will fix it ? just to see if it works befor i go get a new one to find out it is not the psu

THe only PSU's i have bought on the last while have bin Antec or Enermax, both good from what i have owned. Now if you got money to burn and want the best, go with PC Power & cooling PSU. Be warned tho, they are not cheap
