Well.. for those of you that don't read the "General" section.. I had my car broken in to on Wednesday night. Had all of my gear stolen.

Not a huge deal, it can be replaced.

The one thing that does kind of freak me out is that they stole my ownership and insurance card out of the car.

Anyone here know why they'd do that or what they could possibly do with it?

If there is anything really bad they could do with it, what can I do to protect myself against that scenario?

Your first concern should be your home.....if your home address was listed you could have some problems in the future.

Secondly, identity theft is more common than you think.

The home is in the process of getting secured. We had a guy come by today to price out window laminates that make your window basically inpenetrable. $900 for all the lower levels in the house.

The alarm guys is coming tomorrow.

Identity theft is the one thing I'm worried about.

A police report was filled. The bus service was notified. The DMV was notifed and so was my insurance company

JordyO - the secure laminate your getting for the windows is exactly how the pamphlet shows it.. you can litterally take an axe to it and it will not shatter or break, I saw a live demonstration of it at with the AX at Sun-Gaurd's Tint Seminar last year. Make sure you get the stuff which will also reflect the uv so your belongings in the house does not fade, and it assist in keeping the house cool during the summer.

It also makes escaping a house damn near impossible in the event of a fire. I like the stuff, it is a good idea but just weigh the consequences. Is someone going to break in vs. is there going to be a fire?

Sorry to hear about all that Jordy, good call on all the steps taken to be cautious and prepared if somethin happens. That is VERY wierd for them to take the papers...

I'd be most worried about the identity theft, but looks like you've got most grounds covered to the best that you can. Hope everything including you and your family stays safe.

You guys can correct me if Iam wrong.. but I think you can still bust though that new glass laminate Ive seen demonstrated... Its designed to stops projectiles and to hold the glass together.... a person could push thier way through for the same reasons that a knife can penetrate a BP vest.....

If you want the heavy duty shat you need to buy lexan... (or whatever)..
