The guy that came in to quote us on a price showed us a demo of it.
This stuff is used in goverment buildings all over the place and is even used in a building I work at that just happens to be right beside the american embassy. The higher grades of this stuff are even blast proof.
My gf (who was here when he did the measuring) said he is a pretty big guy. Maybe 6'5" and built.. She asked him how tough it would be to get it. Like, if they just kept whacking at it wouldn't they eventually get in?
He said he tested this stuff himself. He had a glass window that he smashed with a baseball bat 45 times and he still hadn't broken the glass.
I'd say that's pretty save.
Btw.. in the event of a fire, I'd open the window from the inside using the handle. Or walk out the door by unlocking it.. ?? [img]graemlins/dunno.gif[/img]
Like I said... Ive never seen it in person... the vid I watched had guys wackn it with bats, throwing molitov ****tails at it, blast tests, ect...
Glass with a perfect lattice can actually hold up against a tremendous amount of pressure on its own...(its retarded!) but most of the time glass is loaded with imperfections and faults..
The film is designed to add support at the faults and to dissipate energy concentrated in one spot over a larger area...
I can definatly see the merit, and I bet it would slow a thief down... but if you wanted to get through it, I dont think it would take you that long.....

I dont suppose he mentioned what the laminate is made of but it does sound like polycarbonate (AKA Lexan).

Well I don't think they took your ownsership to take your identity. They could have taken it so if they get caught they know where you live and can deal with it later. I hope not but it could be the case.

I dont suppose he mentioned what the laminate is made of but it does sound like polycarbonate (AKA Lexan).
I know its a polyomer.. but I bet that its alot more flexable then lexan.. its also my guess that the two sides of the film are quite polar...
