Hey, I was wondering if anyone around here used a radar detector or knows someone who does.

They are illegal though aren't they? If they are, how do you go abotu hiding them? Which one would you suggest using, or not use one at all?

Are they easy for a cop to find or detect in your car?

Any info would be appreciated.

Not worth the hassle cops have sniffers, if they even think you have one they will rip your car apart and leave you at the side of the hwy cleaning up the mess

 

I don't know if they're illegal or not but every time I got pulled over I'd always take it down. (doesn't give the cop the imrpession you know you speed and just want a way out).

Problem is now a days not that many cops do speed steak outs. The way they usually get your speed is they'll see you fly by, they'll get behind you or even in front and they'll THEN turn on their radar. By the time you thing warns you, they already got your speed.

Only thing that a radar detector is good for is freeway driving or highway where you know cops usually steak it out for speed but even then depending on how fast you're going and how good your radar detector is you still might be screwed. a) you need to hit your breaks in time b) is your radar detector giving you a false signal (all radars get false signals, the frequency used by a cop radar is same as the frequency used at all superstores that open the door for you) c) how much warning time did the radar detector give you (more expensive ones will give you more time to slow down, cheaper ones will usually warn you AFTER you get capped).

Lastly, a lot more cops are using laser radars now. a lot harder to detect, and a much longer detection range. even a radar detector on the freeway is getting useless, they're using helicopters to measure how long it takes you to go from one marked line to another (at the side of the freeway you'll see white lines, on big stretches).


all in all, radar detectors in my oppinion are useless. they made me slam on my brakes one too many times on false signals, they saved me only once and didn't work 4 other times.. not to mention i bought the best one available and paid a LOT of money.

Illegal 100% in Ontario. They are very easy for a police officer to detect when he on patrol.

I heard of a trick. Keep an envelope stamped and addressed in your car. If you get pulled over stick it in and seal it. I dont know if its true or not but I heard that they cant open the mail or something to that effect.

Radar Detector - Illegal. Either speed and don't get caught or drive the speed limit.
