Not worth the hassle cops have sniffers, if they even think you have one they will rip your car apart and leave you at the side of the hwy cleaning up the mess

a) they will ask to look through your car once in a while (just say yes, otherwise you're screwed). when they do look through they don't rip anything apart nor do they have the right to.
b) radar detectors don't work as good as they should, waste of money in my oppinion
c) a cop finding a radar detector in your back seat or behind your seat defiently DOES NOT get you in trouble. been there and talk from experience. this is in bc, i don't know about ontario
d) cops will be much less leanient towards you if they see that little praw on your windshield where you put the radar detector on

how about, if you speed, just look out for cops. i've been doing that for the past year and got no tickets because i slowed down when i saw a cop in time rather then laid back and relied on something to save me every time in between all the fake signals
The escort SR7 is not illegal for use. A skilled officer will only get 7/10 laser hits. If he points at your car and gets nothing he's just going to move on to the next guy. Now technically you can get a fine for interfearing with their work. But you should be able to pick up, slow down while being protected and shut it back off.
Keep in mind, like so many other things, Radar is another toy for your car.

if you are too stupid to slow down once youve been targeted you deserve whatever you get. slowing down isnt an option for alot of people and the do gooder(just slow down) way of looking at will get laffs from a guy with 4 or 500 hundred horsepower and like to open it up once in a while, and at 230k you should be watching the road and not looking for oinks

Miluni, something to consider here is the response to the original post and where he is located. In all other provinces in Canada radar detectors and VG2 stealth technology is legal. In Ontario radar detectors / laser detectors, VG2 and any type of jamming signal system is 100% illegal. No officer needs a warrant for this. The officer generally has a device (a VG2 detector) mounted in their car that is tuned to the frequencies emitted by a radar detector. Thus he has all the proof he needs to pull someone over.
I suspect that in Ontario, a OPP officer may infact be authorized to seize the detector, issue whatever fine is necessary for having a detector / jammer as well as the broken speed limit issue, removing and concealing it may result in a obstruction charge thrown on top of a possible vehicle impound (and towing charge)if it is a built in unit.

mine paid for itself on the trip home from saskatoon ...I think it was worth it, although I found if you were cruising more than 160 you really didn't have time to slow down when it went off, they'd still ding you for like 125km/hr if you kept her about 145 though it worked good ........the one I had(it was a uniden I think) claimed to monitor all 3 bands plus laser and claimed to be undetectable by vg2 detectors .......I never got caught with it in manitoba
I havn't used it for years cause I just set my cruise at 115 I got tired of the suspensions, courses and show cause hearings after a while(took about 10 years), not to mention what you have to pay for a licence with 24 demerits

I'm in alberta.. i dunno i use it all the time..
in the city they are so so.. once you know the area you know if its real or not.. but on the highway they are great..
no falses on highway.. get one where you can disable X band.. that will cause alot of falses's.
I'd recommend either the V1 or the escort 8500
one you got the arrows though you don't go back

The cop HAS to obtain consent. You have NO reason to give it to them, any more then you should let a cop into your house without a search warrant.
