router

goimg to but a router, what should I look for?
What is the difference between fixed and plunge? Why would I need one or the other? What about the collet sizes? Will I need the different sizes? Is the one that does all these but not too pricy?
I saw one on Rona's website but it is made by Rona, never heard of Rona's tools but it is 10 amp and 1/2 and 1/4" collet plunge and comes with 25 bits.
Any suggestions and help is appreciated
thanks

Definitely go for the plunge router. The difference is in the fact that the regular router stays at the same depth (although it has some adjuctment) wheras a plunge router can "plunge" down a couple of inches so you can cut much thicker materials (ie. 3/4" and 1" MDF etc.) About the collets, you only need the differet sizes if you have a wide range of bits. Most bits come with a 1/4" shank so the 1/4" collet is your most popular one. Also, a couple of nice features to look for are a lighted base so you can see what you are doing as well as a vaccuume hook-up so you can see what you are doing. Those things produce a ton of dust and visibility can be a serious problem. I am not an expert on power tools but if I cannot decide between one or another, I usually lean towards a higher amperage rating for better durability and more uupmh.
