I do know that a heat shield is neccesary when the pipes run along the edge of the door like a vette.
The exhaust tip MUST exit outside of the body and not under it. Reason is that exhaust gases may enter through holes (rust etc) in the vehicle floor pan and cause carbon monoxide poisining.
Been nailed for both of those.
I think it is the Victoria police that have a webpage that has some great info, but i am unsure of the addy.

So what happens if you have a Viper? They have sidepipes and there loud....you gonna pull over a Viper for have too loud of an exhaust? [img]graemlins/bs.gif[/img]
Just do it....and tell any cop to screw off if they have a problem with it....as long as it's DOT approved, you may not get a ticket for any reason whatsoever.
