Moe, the school yard bully picks up Calvin and proceeds to beat him up. A few classmates try unsuccessfully to stop Moe's beating, while other classmates encourage him, even hold back Calvin's arms so he can get a clean shot. Then when he is done his beating, he decides that he will only allow the people who were on HIS side to clean Calvin's wounds, and bandage them up.

Imagine how Calvin would feel - These are the guys who were in favour of me being beaten, how are they going to 'help' me now? What sort of evil will they do to me as they 'mend' my wounds.

Yeah, I'm sure that Iraqis are really thrilled that the US is controlling who helps out. And don't say that crap about "the US liberated them from an oppressive regime." Yeah there was oppression, but things are much worse now that the US has "liberated" them.

Under Suddam's control, 1-2 shooting deaths a week(Iraqis shooting Iraqis). Now that Suddam is MIA, 10-15 shooting deaths a day (Iraqis, shooting Iraqis). Bush has spun the country into Anarchy. I'm sure that most Iraqis preferred the totalitarian regime over Anarchy - they felt much safer under Suddam than they do now that they have been "Liberated."

It's all about money. There are countries with far more oppressive dictators than Iraq that the USA does nothing about. Why? Those countries don't have natural resources that USA can benefit from.

Same thing goes with the "bidding" contracts, its all about money too, and the states getting richer at the expense of everybody else.

The problem is that we as Canadians are equally involved in the problem. Although we do not actively beat the lunch money out of other countries, we sit idle by and continue to hold our Western Ideologies so dear to our hearts that others world wide suffer because of the way we live. I am just as guilty as the rest.

For the record the Pentagon said it not George Bush, he distanced himself somewhat from the statement, the statement was aimed at Russia, France, Germany, and not Canada directly you are a member of the coalition for rebuilding Iraq. Also, the discussion was only on the initial contracts not the $31B in follow on contracts. Relax, everyone will get to profit over the Iraq war…
Canada has always had an identity crisis with the United States. Everyone hates being called so-and-so's brother, it implies a lesser identity. The US is the big country with the big problems. Canada is more big skies and clean water. As your population grows so will your problems (need I mention Montréal, the OSC insider trading, the Russian influence in the NHL). Your history is full of proud and not so proud moments as is ours. And the political whims of today are tomorrow’s bad judgment.
You have a new PM who has promised sweeping political change and he is politically polar (sounds like Clinton's and Bush's promises upon election) that always is a reason to run and hide.
As a world traveler I will freely state, Canada and the US are MUCH more similar then they are different... AND THAT’S A GOOD THING. I would not be offended if I was confused as a Canuck or a Yank (I grew up in Montreal, my brother is a dual citizen).

Dont expect to be invited to skate on the ice if you stand around and watch everyone else shovel the pond.

you know what your right
first of all it is against intenational law to do that
its call paying off your buddies
the problem is that this makes the us look like its a bomb for dollars program not a humanitarion program
to say we stood by yes we did and no we did't
we were the clean up crew in afganistan
our ships were policing the sea when iraq and afganistan were being attacked

i believe that canada should stay out of iraq the us has gotten themselves in a mess here and are out handing out hero cookies to the countrys that didn't question there tactics in attacking in the first place
they won't save iraq there beleifs and traditions will return after a while
the chopping heads fingers and public stoning will all return
old habits die hard

any stats on how much this whole war cost??

i dont care how much oil there is there, the US gov't dont profit from the construction. and only the net profit from oil sales can be applied to the costs.

taking into account that a poriton of the monies from the oil sales will go to reconstruction of iraz, is there any conceivable way that they could profit? and profit BIG!!!

i dont remember any other president coming under as much fire and criticism as Bush, not clinton or the other bush..
