I had an idea, but I'm wondering if this would work. I would like a ups for my computer, however for the size I would like, they get really expensive.

Would it work to use a power inverter, and a battery connected to a charger? I thought it would work well. The only concern I have, is do power inverters put out a clean enough signal to power a monitor and cpu?

I just think it would be a lot cheaper. I would like about 30 min runtime. And I already have a charger laying around, that isn't used. I'd just need an inverter and old battery.

Any thoughts?

IMO spend the money on a good UPS, buy cheap get cheap. These are worth the money.

They are a great investment for your computer! We've been using them for years and time after time they have proved their worth.

I have a ups, however it is too small for my liking, it only provides about ~7 min backup time, and the battery is toast. I took it apart only to find that the battery inside, is one that I can get from work. It is a 12volt 7.5AH battery. Now I'm wondering if it would hurt the ups if I added a bigger battery? I can get a battery that is the same physical size but is a 12volt 12AH battery. would this hurt the system? I also discovered that I can get 2 12volt 7.5AH batteries for less than the 12AH battery. Other than the recharge time required would it have any adverse effect on the ups to hook more than one battery in parallel?

Thank-you

It should work out. Im using an inverter and a deep cycle battery to power my mosquito magnet that i pull around my yard on a little cart. We also use about 3 batteries and a 1200 watt inverter to run our lights and things when the power goes out. Not a computer, but the same idea. The power supply in the computer takes out any little bumps in the power.
