looking at buying a motorcycle in the US - is there any way to check the VIN to make sure there is no money oweing on the bike (liens etc. etc.) if the bike has been written off and whos name its in ?

would carfax be the place to go ? and one know of a free service ?

When I took out a loan to buy my bike a couple years back, the bank did it for me for a fee. It was required.
