wayback database

In other discussions here I mentioned the use of The Wayback
Machine to retreive broken links and websites that produce
'not found' errors.


Today I actually used it to find some info that used to be on a website. I used this tool and found the May 2003 snapshot I needed of that website. IT IS AMAZING.

you can only search for websites at this point - but once there when you navigate - it navigates the website as it was in the past date - BUT AVOID using search functionality of the website you are visiting - it seems to be wacky ( i.e. it searches current version of website not the old one ).

just go there and put in the website you wish to see as it was in the past.

just use the root website name only

i.e. www.xxx.com

the wayback database then brings up a list of dates. Every date listed represents that they have a copy of that website in full as it was on that date.

Lots of Disk space : it you read up - it's the largest database in existence.
