what's the beef story?

I'm in Ottawa, the price of beef is like double what it was before mad cow. I keep seeing news stories how the farmers are getting ****e for their product; so who's making all the money ? logic would dictate beef would be cheaper with over supply no?

Farmers in my area have been getting as low at $1.57 per cow.... I sure as hell know the farmers aren't getting the profits..im surrounded by beef farms where I am from and they are all in the same situation. It's really unfair to them.

Yeah I would think it should be cheaper, the gov gets the money, just another way to make them more money... So yeah I dont know, I love steak to, but then again I live in Alberta so its cheaper.. So I would think the Government gets all the money, like they do everythiing.

mad cow fallout?
I saw a sign in Wal-Mart yesterday in the pet food section stating that : "Due to trade restrictions, pet food products with US beef are no longer available"
I would guess this would transfer to all beef, and therefore, since supply is restricted, price would go up across the board?
But then, I am no beef farmer,

uhh we have way more beef than we consume ..........we are an exporting country for the most part .......
there was a big ting on CBC radio about this very subject .......farmers are blaming the slauter houses/ meat packing plants for not lowering the prices
they're just raking in the profits right now, while the farmers are starving
and slammed how do you think the government is getting the money ....it's the meat production places making it ....... if anythign this is costing the gov't money.......aid for the farmers and less income tax from them due to lower revenues
