if you mean from like the orginal owner. i think not cause thier not a buisness. but their is the odd person that llkes to do the extra paper work just to get tax added on the price.

hope that was the right answer.

No tax in USA. I'd assume it's the same for you guys. My EX GF bought a car from some guy. He wanted 6500.00 She wrote him out a personal check for 6500.00 and away we went!

If you buy a used car from a dealer, there is GST/PST on it.

hmmm.. in manitoba when you go to insure the vehcile after a private sale, you have to have a recipet of purchase, and then u pay the PST on the vehicle, but....... that's Black or Blue book cost of the vehicle you pay tax on. so it u buy a 2003 escalade for 15,000, and the book value says 50,000, you pay PST on the 50,000!!

In sask, if the vehicle is bought out of province privately, you pay one full tax (pst or gst, I'm not sure which one), and if the vehicle is bought privately within the province, you pay tax on the amount over $3000.

I'm know for sure you will get dinged with provincial tax in ontario (%6)

When you go to the ministry of transportation to get the ownership transfered into your name you need a bill of sale... then they take the LARGER value between that and the blue book price....

It could be worth while to find out what the blue book lists the vehicles value at before you buy !

Only acception I know of, is if the vehicle is transfered as a gift between immediate familly (parents/siblings)

There may be a write off if its for buisness.. ect..

You pay tax in bc but not to the person.

When you go to register/insure your vehicle you pay the taxes there.
