Where to go for shop work?
Dunno if this is the right forum, but I still wanna ask to see if you guys can help me. I bought some 6 1/2" coax speakers and I want to get them installed in my car. 89 Olds cutlass supreme. I'm pretty sure I have 5 1/4" in the door so dunno what you would do about that to make it fit.
My question is where is a good place to go in Edmonton to get my speakers installed? I'm kinda broke so don't wanna pay outta my ***, but I don't wanna do it myself cause I'm sure i would screw it up. I'm thinking of just taking it to a future shop or sumthing, but I have a hunch it's a crap shoot for experience of installers...
any advice would be appriciated. Thanks

Any particular reason why you would screw it up? If you have the proper tools, work area and you think logically, you would be hard-pressed to foul up a speaker install. If nothing else, at least give it a shot and see what you are up against. You'll feel better knowing you tried if you end up taking it to a shop. As long as you are carefull with your panel removal and take notes if it becomes complex, you should be able to do it in your own garage/driveway.
And if you don't want to cut the metal of your door to make them fit you can make baffles to raise them so they will fit into the 5 1/4 holes.
I made my 5 1/4" fit into the 4 1/2" hole in my door by simply adding a 1/2" thick baffle. Works well, I can still use the factory grills and I didn't have to cut the door metal.
Here's what they look like
Give it a try!
