Why do people open strange email attachments ?

Had to put in a ton of overtime because someone in the office decided to open a 'mysterious attachment'.. infected two of our servers, and deleted all the .XLS, .DOC, .ZIP and .MDB files on the shared drives (where most of the company data is stored).. Thank goodness for daily tape backups..

Turns out it was the latest variation of the Mydoom virus (revision F).. Our virus definitions could not detect it, they were updated after the fact

Man that sucks, i always hated doing tape back-ups untill they paid off in situations like that.

And to answer your question they want to know what it is, I always open my mail attachments at school if I do not know what they are just in case.

I had a wierd email attchement the other day. I was SO temped to open it even though I blantenly knew it was a virus. It's not hard to not get viruses, just pay attention... Some people are so stupid.

Same thing happened to me last Tuesday. Had to take down 2 servers and have all of my clients in 1 building out for the day. [img]graemlins/banghead.gif[/img]

Thank god for backups though. Had everything back to normal the next morning. [img]graemlins/headbang.gif[/img]
