AVI sub enclosure

Hey guys I'am new to the site, I have a question.I have a 2001 bmw 5 series just got a system installed, I'am running four 10" AVI sls250 subs in a ported enclosure. The ports are facing up about 2" away from the rear deck. The bass sounds like crap, it is very muffled and mooshy sounding. I've heard these subs before and they sounded tight and punchy. Can i port the rear deck, pull the port tubes out of the box so they extend to the deck would this help? Running PG 1200.1 Xenon for the subs. I want this to be a sq system even though I running 4 10's.Thanx for your help.

Avi subs do very well in a sealed box, I made a similar mistake by porting it, and it sounded like crap. They are veryvery picky subs, only sound good in the proper placement! Weird...I had it in a box that was about 3/4 recommended and thought it would perform, and it didnt! I was pissed....but hey, its all good

^ depends on the series.

The SLS250 is for a Sealed box. the SL line is for vented.

I'd have a talk with your box builder / installer..

Thanks for your input guys. If I go sealed in my type of car will the bass still sound muffled, there is no ski pass and the seats do not fold down. Also I've got a stupid question to which I think I know the answer to already, I have an alpine dva 9965 with a pxah701 can the subs be processed to hit lower or is it just a poorly built box? I do not know the specs but I was assured it is built to avi specs.

^ Processors should be used to make minor corrections to sound - not fix bad sound.

As for the assurance... well if you have SLS250s and a vented box then their assurance isn't worth poo..

Attaining a proper enclosure for the woofers should be the first thing you do.
