I just picked up some used Hertz speakers..
I wasnt sure about their condition.
they all look great. except one of the midbass drivers has a small rip in the rubber ring.. its about 5mm at the largest part of the rip.

How much will this affect the sound? Is this speaker totally doomed now?

patch it up if you can, shouldn't affect much if anything...depending on what caused it.

Nail polish is your friend. Although I don't know if it works on the rubber surround, I do know it works wonders on paper cones with rips, tears, etc.

wont work... need some like super glue material with flex... depending on what model we are talking about here

 

Also when using any kind of chemical based adhesive try it out on some old POS speaker first. Some glues will dissolve the rubber.

try using Plyobond adhesive or even Goop

shoe goo from crappy tire....ripped the surround on one of my subs over a yr ago and it is still holding. just make sure that you do both sides of the surround.

 

Shoe Goo is good, but make sure to apply thin, even coats. It will balance better, creating a longer life.
