So...since i recently just randomly decided i was rich, i've been doing some heavy brainstorming.

My actual question thru out this all is in relation to ports on the IPOD's. For the purpose of making a slot for it and making it kinda hidden, i see alpine makes a special lil cable to connect to their new headunit's. My question does that cable provide power and data??? Looking at this i can't find any other ports really part from one on the top for like headphones or similar i assume. So power and data would have to come to the ipod thru the same cable (whether it splices somewhere along the way or not like so for example
So....does it provide both power and data? or are you expected to run it off battery? Anyone know???

The reasons i ask is i've always wanted to get all my music into my vehicle (currenlty about 64.1GB). IPOD does about 60GB, i'm sure i could get rid of some crappier tunes. I've got plans of pickin up the new Alpine IVA-W200 and make a bit of a custom install. I'd be willing to lose my front vents in return for this deck + a slot where i can slide the IPOD into and have it dock/connect for data and power. which are hidden when slid into the dash.

Here's some quick efforts froma friend kinda showing my idea....

hmm yeah thats the other option.....and yes the cable you listed is the one planned, my only worry was how long it is.

I found out from a press release from alpine that the cable provides power and data. But still haven't found a length.

EDIT**

damn't i just found out it's 6.5 ft. Where were these answers before when i needed them??

guess that'd be cheaper than some fancy dash spot
