Blown speaker on brand new car

Hi

I have a 2011 GTI with 1000km on it and my front drivers side woofer is toast.

At this point i would like to put something aftermarket. Can I just replace the woofer and keep the original tweeter and crossover? Or do i have to replace everything? I have an Alpine Type R 5.25 component that I am not using, I can take the woofers from that.

thanks for any replies.

on my 96 jetta the tweeters were ran off of the original speakers with a different clip from the original speaker.

now i know its way older but maybe VW kept this idea and in that case you wont be able too.

isnt it under warrenty?

yes it is under warranty but i figured it was a good excuse to upgrade, especially that i have a mint set of type R lying around.

lol makes sense. well if you pull the speaker out and it only has 2 wires going to it then i would assume crossovers and tweeters will keep working

Warranty that hoe. As soon as you touch something you risk voiding your warranty.

go to the dealer and tell them to fix it. warranty is your friend. abuse it, just the way the dealer did to make you buy the car

i'd say, get it fixed first, then upgrade.. at least then you can sell you "brand new" stockies

Regarding an upgrade, is it at all possible to only replace the tweeter and woofer with aftermarket while retaining the stock HU, xover and wiring?

I def do not want to change the HU and want to keep the wiring as stock as possible. I do not know enough to know if what i am thinking even makes sense.

I was able to totally redo my system in my Corrado all by myself with help from this site. With my 2011, i really do not want to pull everything out.

Thanks
