I have a 1993 Honda Accord LX and I find the thing I am really missing other than a proper EQ is dash speakers. Since the door speakers are so low, I find the sound is physically faded to the back. I thought of fading the sound to the door speakers from the HU, which works somewhat, but it's still missing what the dash speakers could give it. My question is how difficult is it to install dash speakers in a vehicle that wasn't designed for them? Would it interfere with the vents possibly? And my other problem is there isn't a lot of room for the speakers, but I can figure that out after I figure out how hard it will be in the first place. Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

 

I would stay away from trying to mount drivers into the top of your dash. I have had very good luck with those cars with mounting component speakers in the factory door locations and angling the tweeter up towards the dome light. Alternately, an Apillar mounted tweeter can move the sound up as well.

If you do not currently have component drivers, I suggest you pick up a set and do some experimentation with the tweeters.

 

Thanks for the tips -- They confirmed my suspicions and fears (Although I have a parts car that I could experiment on...) My front components are Boston S55's with a soft dome tweeter built in. The S50 model comes with separate tweeters with a factory crossover included, so that's always an option down the road. Maybe I'll just hack up the parts car a little bit, and see where that goes :P

 

So they are a coaxial then and not separates?

If you have a spare set of tweeters or can borrow a set off a friend, try sticking a set right where the dash, windshield, and Apillar meet. Face them directly towards eachother to start and then rotate them towards you to experiment with the imaging. It may be enough to raise your sound up.

 

I don't think I have anywhere that I could borrow some, or anything like that... what would I do about driving them if I did pick up a pair?

 

Either run them off the deck, or parallel them off the amp with their own passive crossover or pick up a small amp for them.

 

Hmm... right now the deck is running the comps... is there any way for it to run the tweeters at the same time? And the signal I have going to the amp is a sub out from the deck, because I find it's better than the LPF on the amp itself, so there would be no way to run the tweeters off of it at the moment because it's all lower frequencies.
