My front stage is almost complete and with any luck i will have all the pieces here by next week, consisting of 4.5" Scan-Speak Revelators for mid-range (vocal range only) and Dynaudio md130 tweets (agreed to purchase from Tom). complementary midbass will flow from Morel 8's already in the doors. each speaker will receive its own dedicated channel of power from a macintosh amp worth about 110 wrms @ 4 ohms (tweets are 8 ohms).

Now for the killer part... i need to build some kick pannels to house the components but am afraid that i'm not up for the task alone as i don't have the most experience on it. i have built several kicks before so i'm up to par with the labour part, but the perfect positioning is a bit over my head i think.
As such i would like to ask for some help on building them or at least get some references as to whom has built iasca worhty systems that could help me out... i need to spend as little money as possible as i have been drained from buying the pieces and adding go-fast goodies to the Z.
Any help is appreciated.

This may or may not help you, but this guy has taken alot of time and effort to build kicks that are going to win.

What it boils down to is making the baffle to hold the speakers and then using towels or sweatshirts to easily position the speakers into the best sounding spot. It may take hours of listening and adjusting. Then the hard part is to make sure you can rigidly attach the baffles in the same spot as you had them with the towels yet not have them too obtrusive. Another question is are you sure to know what to listen for? And is your source material good enough?

As for that install, this guy spent way more time and money than i can afford to. it does look amazing.... no shortcuts there!! the fit and finish i can do easily... its the 2 person job that i'm afraid of... last time i did it, the baffles did move slightly and the end result was not as i had planned (not too far off thought... the stage was quite high and expanded just slightly past the pillars... the depth was lacking (not too bad though) and the center was a bit to the left (although really really well focused).

i really think i need a second experienced person.... any volunteers?!!?

i saw your set-up probably a year ago (maybe less, realy can't remember) and liked the look of it. the grill is really sweet!!
However, i don't have nearly as much space and would like to make it blend in more with the rest of the car... one way or the other, i still need someone to help me with the positioning...
Any pros out there wiling to give a helping hand to a poor fool??

 

If you are looking for a quicker, more simplistic way of getting a good idea of where to aim them, look at my Sounddomain page, page 2. I give a fairly detailed write-up on how I did my kick panels. I used a laser pointer.

 

I saw you sounddomain page.... also very nice.. looks like alot of work (as expected).
Today i received the Revelators... all i can say is wow! sweet looking speakers... can't wait to plug them up!

Thanks [img]smile.gif[/img] They actually didn't take all THAT long, although expect a few evenings or a weekend to do it. You can save a whole lot of time by not worrying about having removable custom grilles and a fancy baffle like I did.

 

My kicks took me roughly 20 hours to make and were well worth it ! Total $$ spent was around $75 give or take. If you need some pointers, message me and I can walk you through some of the steps.

I have some Jl's and have been planning on swapping them for the macroms..
