friendly competition is not that unusual... but there always seems to be one hot head every 4th or 5th show (usually a newb).
lets take a quick look at the typical SQ or SPL competitor: 19 years old, obsessive compulsive, type A personality, in need of a girlfriend ( lets call it pent up tension), they have this whole car audio thing figured out, and electrical safety is for pussies. If given the smallest amount of education and are forced to exhibit mutual respect they could be a great competitor... or they could turn into a jackwaggon
