Good advice for a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier

First of all thanks for even looking at this thread I appreciate your help because I am new to audio, just looking to find some advice and a place to install some great audio. I have a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier I just bought, first car looking to get audio in it but no one to trust to find a good deal or the first clue on what to look for. I was originally looking on a thread here called "Toronto Install Shops... " looking for a install shop in the GTA but decided to post my own thread since I wouldn't know what to ask for. I am looking for a deck for a good package which includes a deck, amp, and a sub installed at a place where I can trust. I do live in the GTA and am willing to go almost anywhere as long as service and installation is very trustworthy. Does anyone have any reccomendations on what I should buy for this car?

Try it yourself, its more fun. What is your goal? There's a guy here named 420Guy, he had a cav that was loud and won him some sq trophies, so if he ever comes on again he'd be a great guy to help you out.

I looked at the video and I don't think I should be doing that myself. I'm very unexperienced and I rather may the extra whatever (unless its a very large amount) to get it installed professionally. My goal is to get a package from a reputable car audio company and hope to get a deal on installation since I will be buying a package. Does any one know the size of the deck of the 01 Cavalier to replace it with a DVD/GPS deck and no open space to fit right in?

if you want to go with a dvd/gps unit, you'll want to go with a single din fold out unit and a dash kit to fill in the hole. a double din unit will not fit in our dashes unless you pull it off and do a lot of fabrication work. ie cut open to fit the unit then fiberglass to finish it off and make it look nice.

I have a 2004 sunfre and was looking into a double din unit and found out they dont fit right.

if you want more info on this check out j-body.org - the jbody organization and search around in the audio section of the forum. there is tons of great info in there about our cars.

Not too sure on pricings. For someone that is looking for this kind of package how much do they usually spend for it? Can a package like this go for $500-$600 or since I'm all at factory do I got to be spending over $1000?

If you want the best bang for your buck then buy what you need online, take the dash apart yourself, and then take it to a shop.

With (+/- $200) $1000 I'd be looking at:

Cheap deck & harness - might be a $120 harness
Set of CDT (or cheaper) 6.5's (and door-pods) with tweeters
Used component amp (400W x 4 channel)
2 Sound Solutions Audio DCON 12's
Custom 4.5 cube ported box
Used sub amp (600W x 1 channel @ 1 ohm)
1/0 gauge wire where possible
Battery (new)
Sound deadener

harness should only be $20 tops, mine was $14.95 + tax
