Some people cant make shows that are happening on Sundays.
I'd love to go and compete, but Sundays are bad for me.
Oh and I need a real install in my car, but I need a motor in it first.

I hope to attend a couple SQi's again this year. Been fixing all the little things they found last year. I guarantee my fans won't be falling apart this year. lol

Sponsorships and support I think are the biggest problems in SQ.

There is basically one team in Canada with any kind of support and no one else really stands a chance, they charm the pants off of the better people in SQ and support the crap out of them and anyone from the general public doesn't honestly stand a chance. I think they actually had the word "domination" printed on the shirts.

I'm not knocking the sponsor by any means, I think they are a great company with a great team and great members (ahem).

My point is just that no other manufacturer is stepping up to compete with them, again, I don't blame them, in the Canadian market, why bother?

Market proliferation is the problem, when 6 of 10 competitors are running a particular brand of product and all helping each other as well as the help of the other "World Champions" on the team, it's very disheartening for the average competitor who paid retail for their product and spent the time alone working their butt off only to get to a show and already being at a %40 deficit chance of winning.

There are no real reasons to want to win, you can't earn a sponsorship. (except for the one manufacturer, and if you don't happen to want to run that product you'd have to sacrifice your personal integrity to do so.)

The prizes suck, entry cost of $40 to win a $20 trophy.

No chance of magazine article, all the SQ magazines are gone.

No real chance of making a name for yourself (it's just Canada)

I've met a bunch of really cool people by competing in SQ, that's about the ONLY reason I can think of to compete.

SQ.

It is quite the difficult league of stereo competition.
The Install.
The Judging.
The Long ardorous period of the show while waiting to be judged.
The Cost of the shows.
The Exspense of "good equipment".
The Countless hours or tuning.
The Closeness of the limited amount of competitors.
The Quantity and Quality of shows.
The Quality of recognition of winning, or for that fact - of losing.

You really have to be serious to join this class of Audiophiles.

fun?

It can be at a cost.

Look at SPL

Slap together a box of scrap plywood.
Buy some used subs.
Jerry rig the amp hookups.
Borrow the lane cd.
Pay $10 to 20
Run a track
Go gaff it up with the other competitors,
Poke and prod other systems for ideas of cheap fixes/hook ups
Just like a cheap quick getaway from the "SPOUSE"

lol

Thats why I still like SPL. its fast, easy, and fun. not all seriousness and lengthy.

However dont get me wrong SQ, is very enjoyable at times. Being competitive and all. lol

We just have to figure out how to make it more enjoyable, easier and more affordable. Especially during these tougher economic times.

I'll have to agree with MTT as far as the main reason I compete is.
It's mostly personnal satisfaction of trying to show up others with a different kind of setup, and just enjoying spending times with other competitors who share the same passion as me for quality audio.

However, living far away, and being on a limited budget, I can't get the big $$$ equipment and can't make it to most shows either. (10h roundtrip everytime).

Anyone around the gta suburbs (burl oak mississauga etc) want to help me install and I will start competing in rookie. Going to be running some budget equipment but figure install is the most important part.

First...install new motor and build a tranny that won't blow up

Then save up for new front speakers and a few amps.

Could I compete with HAT Clarus speakers, DLS amps and an IDQ sub?

Is it good enough?

Yes it is.....I could have sworn we talked about this a while ago.....

Given the 2" of slush in my driveway at the moment it may have to wait for a bit.......

SQ comps arent really much more expensive than an SPL event. And even if you dont walk away with a trophy, you will probably have a better sounding system by the end of the day.
