East Need reviews of Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD

I have been looking at the Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who owns one about their experiences to date.

2 other questions:

(a) The Pioneer website indicates there is a new model (AVH-P3100DVD) coming out in April 2009. Is this worth waiting for instead of buying the P4000DVD?

(b) Are there local shops in the west end of Toronto (+ Mississauga) that can offer competitive prices (compared to buying US online) on Pioneer HUs?

I have the AVH-P4000DVD and love it. It is very fast at loading up songs form oth CD-DVD and USB. Navigation interface is great as it will display subfolders so it is great for sortings songs as you want.

Only draw back for some is there is no dedicated sub output. Can't answer your other questions. However the best deal for this unit , including comparing with US pricing, was from futureshop. It comes on sale every few weeks.

Thanks for the feedback.

I am a newbie at this so sorry for the dumb question: what do you need a dedicated sub output for?

i dont like pioneer motorized screen units b/c they dont like loud bass for extensive periods of time. I had two and both broke in the same manner. never again will I buy one of those if my car has moderate amount of bass.

get an alpine unit instead.

It does not have a motorised screen BTW.

The sub output is if you want to have RCA outputs to amps to power front left and right and to power rear left and right and then one rca output for the sub.

But it is still possible to get a sub and have rears with it, however you will loose the fader function.

If you are going to use the unboard amplifier for your speakers then it's simply not an issue.

And the lack of a sub preout is easily overcome when you buy an amp that has a pass through rca and a built in remote sub level control. I know of a dealer that has this unit is stock and a deal on it as well......

the 4100DVD is the replacement model. the 3900 is a cheapo. the 4100 Has a few more features and larger scree, but has a motorized face. 2009 Model pricing for almost EVERYTHING car audio will be up at least 15% (pioneer and Alpine closer to 20% Kenwood had the smallest increase from the dealer price lists I have) so 2009 will be a fun year.

Selling Kenwood, Alpine, and Pioneer at the store I am currently working at I can tell you without any doubt that kenwood currently makes a better quality screen with more featurs than pioneer, On par reliability wise with alpine easily, but with more features and more control..

the Kenwood DDX512(514 new model) is cleaner looking, has more features and doesn't stick out 3/4" out of your dash. It's designed to almost flush mount unline Pio, and ALP.

Since the model is being replaced next month hold off on your purchase fora feww weeks, should be blown out for a great price
