when we do our shows we have trophies for 1-3 and cash for the winners only, i think it was 150 or 200$. i hit up every person i can for swag, we gave away over 5k in swag at our last show and i think people really dug it, the prizes could be won by anyone including non competitors which i think keeps everyone interested even if they arent competing
I like the trophies 1-3 also. Defro13 has a good idea with giving large cash prizes to the winners. The only problem with the cash is the increased entry fee. Would be nice to make some money in this sport, instead of just spending it. But to keep the cost down, and to keep me coming back, all I need is a chance to win a 6 foot tall trophy now and then.

Trophies for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th
Plaques for 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th
Plaques are sweet even if they're small like 8"x4"..
I think certificates or w/e wouldn be as great becuase they tend to not get framed and just lay aorund like a piece of paper.

i would say....
trophies for 1-4
certificates for 5-8
some momento prize for everyone.
maintaining prestige of getting a trophy is important, but not a cheap trophy that melts if you leave it on your amp for the drive home from a show.
also, a paper for everyone that includes event day and name along with location and score is kinda good to and doesn't cost much.
when everyone gets something then a least the show isn't a complete loss if you don't get a trophy.
but CASH or free gear from the stores would always be appreciated. what about offering some "shop time" to get some help working on a system?

id say that id give up all trophies for more shows. although we all love trophies. when there are as little as 5 shows in our immediate vacinity. then 5 trophies would be nice. but id gladly like to have 20 shows and end up with 5 trophies from 20 shows.
