You have to have some sort of format for the show though, no? You can't have a guy with a deck + 4 go up against some guy who has dropped 5k on a system, can you? Where is the motivation for the beginner to enter?
IMO, basing the whole compition on one car will limit the number of people that will enter. Especially the locals. They know who has the gear and who doesn't. You also won't draw anybody from outside Kelowna with that setup.
I am sorry that you personally don't like the IASCA format (or old format), but sanctioned events are what are going to draw the people. This is the kind of mentality that has killed IASCA compitions in the last few years.
Take a look at what happened last year in Kamloops with Krazy Eddies. They held the first ever (to my knowlage) IASCA SPL show and if I remember right they had well over 50 cars show up. That can easily be done with both SQ and SPL. I think there was only 1 actuall IASCA member that came and that was Pat with his Shadow. But look at the responce it had.

i had a show 2 years ago non sanctioned by anybody, ask pat he was there, we ran almost 70 cars for spl, and 9 for sq, best sounding car won, i truly dont believe that there needs to be classes for the best sounding car, there are LOTS of cars out there that spent large cake and sound like garbage and consequently there are people that have spent under 2000 that have great sound, best sounding car wins, and if the format disturbs people, which is unfortunate, thats to bad beacause in this format the best sounding car wins, period. the show isnt for the deck and 4 guy, or really the beginner, sorry, its for the true competitor, there just isnt enough time in a day for one guy to judge 25 cars. any rules determining good sound quality are in my opinion silly, in my show best sounding car wins, i dont car if he has rca cable duct taped to the windshield, you dont have to spend 5000 in labour to have a great sounding car, thats my point who cares how it looks, its all about the sound, hence no rules just good sound. any rules determining the best sounding car in sorry to say stupid.
i think everyone that went to the show 2 years ago got a good tan on top of getting a chance to see some really good demo vehicles. It was a "have at great time" type of event. no one bitched , and everyone got to hear some loud cars and see some sweet rides. Great stuff. i highly recomend it to those that live in sh1tty weather all year.

Well, it sounds like your pretty set on how you wanted to run the show so why ask for our opinions?
I agree there are alot of cars out there that spent a tons of cash that sound like crap, but do you honestly believe 9 cars is a good turnout? No offence, but if you can draw 70 cars for SPL there is no reason you shouldn't be able to bring in 20-25 sq cars. You should be able to easily judge 20-25 cars with a single SQ judge in a matter of a couple hours. If you do the math, it takes what, 10 minutes per car? 10min x 25 cars is a shade over 4 hours. It will take at least that long to run 70 cars through SPL.
If the show is directed towards the "true competitor", then why not sanction it for the real competitors that will travel for shows?
And as far as the "stupid" rules, are you saying that staging, imaging and tonal accuracy are "stupid" for sq? What do you base it on? One individual judges preference? How is that measured? There has to be some sort of measurment system?
