Defro13 I like the idea of a fun aspect but like many people have mentioned maybe a small score sheet or at least a judge taking some notes is necessary, instead of having 1 best car takes all why not small prizes for places 1-5, that won't discourage people from entering as much.

as is said the judge will take notes and will share the notes with each competitior if they want, i dont know i just like the winner takes all, 1 winner for consumers, 1 for professional.there will be swag for everyone no matter what. i was thinking of letting the judge use his own reference material, that he is very familiar with. im sorry if i seem negative but i learned in the past that rules complicate things when what were trying to do isnt very complicated. i would also venture to say that half of the competition for sq is to see how you measure up against everyone else in all catagories like power, woofers etc not weather you win or lose but to learn how to be better. when i used to compete it was always more about getting better than the trophy, thrill of the win i guess

how can 1 judge, judgeing every car with his own reference material, taking individual notes on every car and dealing with each competitor on an individual basis and choosing the best sounding car in his opinion be a cluster****, it cant get any simpler. unfortunately its the subjective nature of judgeing sq that can complicate things(aka cluster****) but its impossible to bypass, so long as its subjective, there will pissin bitchin and moaning by competitors, oddly enough only by the losers, never yet heard a winner ****, bitch and moan, ah **** sq for my show, its already complicated and the show is 3 months away, if people want to have their car judged in my format they are more than welcome to show, it will be a good time and we will see who has the best sounding car, install aside, just sound quality, remember this is supposed to be fun

Defro, please don't get upset ta what people are trying to recomend. Obviously by the responce of the thread it shows that people aren't fond of the format you want to run and are trying to give some constructive critisism. Unfortunatly you are taking that critisism way to personally.
It is great that you are holding a show and supporting the competitors by doing so. They are just trying to help make your show fun and even for all entrants. Please do not get upset with these people who will be supporting you by coming to the show.
Now, you asked for feedback about the format for the show and this is the responce you are receiving. If I were a store owner, I would want to cater to what my customers/competitors want and not what is going to be the easiest for me.
Can I give you a reccomendation for a very basic, yet effective scoresheet that you may use? If your judge is familiar with the music that he is using, then he should know exactly what is should sound like on a finley tuned system. If he is not that familiar with the music he is using, get him to listen to it in front of a pretty high end line of full range home speakers. Get him perfectly centered between the speakers and sit him back about 6-10 feet. This will give him a good baseline to judge all the vehicles off of. That way basline is not measure on any of the vehicles that are competing.
Here is a very basic SQ scoresheet that you can use:
Its up to you on if you want to run classes or not, but if you do here is what I recomend:
Beginner 0-600, 600+
Advancer 0-600, 600+
Stage:
Width 1-10 points
Hight 1-10 points
Front to Rear 1-10 points
Imaging:
Left 1-10 points
Right 1-10 points
Center 1-10 points
Tonal accuracy:
Sub bass 1-10 points
Mid Bass 1-10 points
Mid Range 1-10 points
High 1-10 points
System Noise:
Engine noise 1 or 10 points

I like fat whacker's score sheet, it is very simple and fun and will surely be appreciated by a seasoned competitor as well as someone new and or looking to break into the competition scene.
"unfortunately its the subjective nature of judgeing sq that can complicate things(aka cluster****) but its impossible to bypass, so long as its subjective, there will pissin bitchin and moaning by competitors, oddly enough only by the losers, never yet heard a winner ****, bitch and moan"
I think NOT having a score sheet will create the above atmosphere, a score sheet takes the subjectiveness out of the judging. As long as its one judge usuing there own reference material I don't forsee any problems. Last year out of the 6-7 sq shows I attended I did not hear any complaints whatsoever about the judging because the score sheet generally laid everything out. If I may add something to the sheet though, I would put a small install category as well for the advanced section this way the guys that have elaborate installs are not left out:
Safety 1-10
Craftsmanship 1-20
Bonus points 1-5
I think as you can see the general consensus among sq competitors is to have some sort of score sheet. I personally cannot see someone like Mike D. Bryce or Steve bringing there vehicles 10 hours one way and having to stay the night without a more formal show format.
Having that said though you are planning and running the show. Regardless of what you decide to do it is great to see the time and effort you are putting into the show and including an SQ divison. I will try and be there regardless of the format however I do believe and am sure many other sq competitors on this forum and elsewhere will agree that some sort of score sheet must be used for best results and to ensure a greater amount of competitor participation.
Please let me know if I can further assist with anyting to do with the show.

It is absolutely no fun judging sq in Kelowna in the middle of summer, especially sq, this I know only too well. I too judged Iasca back in 92 in Kelowna and the format has changed drastically since then, but that said, everyone will still whine and complain and think their system is the best. Dave, you are right with the meter, is judges all on the same playing field. Sq / install is a whole pile more work but is a whole pile more rewarding for those involved in it. If you do an sq event, I too may make the trip.

there will be a award for best install(think the civic will win, hahaha) all cars will be judged in the install bay so you wont be subjected to 50 degree in car temps, there will be subjectiveness in judging with or without scoresheets. anytime a persons hearing is used to determine what does and doesnt sound good, there will be some degree of subjectivity, having said that, ther rules for the show will be as follows:
1)no power classes
2)no install points or bonus points
3)maximum 30 points for stage height width etc
4)maximum 50 points for tonal accuracy
5)maximum 30 points for imaging
6)maximun 10 points for system linearity
7)no more rules, just kiddin'
8)tim turbull will pick 3 reference tracks
9)maximum 10 minutes per vehicle
10)anyone caught pissin, bitchin or moanin will have to play beer hunter with me, its fun, you get to drink beer(at least i do)
i hope these rules(hate that word) work let me know, and dukk you could hitch-hike here from abbotsford in less that 6 hours, less than 3 hours almost doing the speed limit
