Stop whining about points!

All the SQ guys should show up regardless of trophy and points, it should be for the love of cars and love of music... Some of the cars that show up to oldie car shows travel futher than any SQ or SPL guys to show off their cars and talents. Most of the time they walk away with just a few stories, and a good time...and buy the way spend in some cases 10 times as much to fix up there rides as the average SQ guy.
Now we have just finished building a SQ 1986 VW Jetta Caratt. I know the work that it took to get this thing to sound good and look great, and I also own a 1962 corvair, which is over the top in every way and does not have a stereo yet, so I am talking from experience when I say I understand that it is nice to be recognized for our efforts. But to only show off your rides because you want to win a trophy and get a few points is missing the "POINT" of why we do what we do. Bragging rights are all subjectual anyway.
Just my two cents.

I understand this,
but to show up to shows just to get points is not the "point".
The ultimate trophy for guys in the Hot rod industry is a chance to sell their rides at Barret Jackson, or a cover of a hot rod magazine. The chances of a guy being "invited" to have their car on the cover of a "Performance" magazines is a million - one. Hot Rod guys spend spend spend, and so do SQ guys, and I really appriciate both. I just want to see guys show up to shows because they want to hang out with guys with the same interests, and really don't care if they win or lose.

So get into car shows then.

If you want competitors to show up, SQ or SPL, then they want to know it is worth their time and money. It is a rare person that will show up just to hang for the day.

in randys case bill he needs the points to get to sbn when your pts chasing its not worth it to drive 12 hrs to a show were you dont receive any points when pts are what your going for , will and myself made alot of long drives just to make sure we are in position to get to finals the costs that are assoicated with competing is alot of money and some of us cant afford to make every single show

I am huge into car shows, and I have a small car audio shop. I don't care what kind of car it is as long as it sounds good and looks great. I am not trying to be a saint, but I go to sound-offs and car shows to have fun. Sure its a bonus to win something, but that is not what it is all about. SQ cars should be seen and heard, and I realize that 12 hours to drive is alot of miles for some, to just hang out.

It's also about getting judged on a level playing field. If you're just asking the public to listen to the cars and state which one sounds best, it's not going to be fair. That's why there are sanctioning bodies to provide the same criteria that judges need to look for in a car stereo. What you're offering is a bullshit session possibly based on politics or personalities. IASCA, USACi, MECA & Dave's SQ all have specific things to add to their score sheets to help determine a winner & why. Many competitors don't really care about trophies or even the points, but being judges accurately for what they've built.

I agree sanctioned events are the only way to go makes it worth the trip, the money, and the time. I myself am not a points chaser yet, but i do like going to sanctioned events so my score gets placed against those who actually might attend worlds so i know where i am at for future refrence.

I actually agree about being accurately judged. Was at a show this year where a car won SQ based on the fact that the guy was kinda a bully! The install was nice, the sound was good, and it was a pleasure to see, although did not deserve a 1st. I found that 9 times out of 10 the hosting shop gets top honors in SQ, because it is there show (WHY???)....
To make any judging fair, you need a panel of judges....at least 3 people. This is the way I have handled SQ. In the past 2 of the judges had nothing to do with car audio, one guy was a singer and musician, he understood what a guitar, piano, and drums should sound like. Most guys are completely bias in sound and cars. One likes Focal, another likes Hertz, another likes Soundstream. One likes Ford, another likes Honda, another likes VW you get the picture.
This brings me back to my point...If you spent 1,2,3 months building something wouldn't you just want to show it off! I get more pleasure out of the public saying nice job, then a judge saying you could of done better.
