Would you support a Canadian finals?
This is what I would suggest... baby steps
2009 East vs West Canadian Finals
2010 Canadian World Finals Location
Bill and Erie for the East and James and Don for the West
Action plan -
Achieve 75-100 competitors combined between both locations to show Wayne that Canada has competitors.
The Location East or West with more competitors would probably have the better chance of getting the Finals in their area over the other.
Wayne could the US and Canadian Finals locations and rotate the year after; ie. One in Indy and one in calgary and the following year being one in KC and one in Toronto.
To make it work, competitors from all over Canada would have to support it. Promoters and certified judges would have to work together to make it happen. Industry support would definately benefit it. A date and venue would have to be announced early to allow it to be a success. Even if we can get noobs, friends, family, tim horton's parkling lot peeps, anyone to compete at 1 show, this would be the show. I think that if everyone were to get involved and support this 1 event, we could get 75-100 people at each the East and the West.

to me that souds like a fair plan! im in the process of setting up a small series of dbdrag shows in my area for the upcoming season, my goal is to introduce new faces to the game as there are alot of street pounders around. the last show we had in Lindsay brought out like 40 competitors but that was with iasca and of course they didnt follow through with more shows and the interest faded
Last year when the idea of a few finals locations started there was a HUGE chance of having finals in Canada (possible 2 venues). Then what happened? They found there wasn't as much support at the current venues. Not to mention there wasn't many Canadian competitors attending finals. Although this year it seems there was many more, if this trend continues and more and more Canadians go the chances may increase.
Also up until recently Canadians have had a bad name in dbdrag, a few years ago when talking to Americans they really disliked us because a few Canadians took some candid box pictures in the past so we were all labeled bad
Also another note if everyone really wants a Canadian finals everyone will need to work together and not against each other. I don't mean not compete against each other, I mean treat each other with respect, don't complain about each other, don't complain about judges, don't complain about rules, etc
PS. Centralization sucks, look at what happened when IASCA tried that..

Reading all this if a Canadian finals is to happen we as Canadian would have to stop being negative about the idea those who have connections pull together. The dollar american being higher would make it attractive for the americans to come hear for finals. As for Deb and I next season taking a break due to personal reasons the neon may may not come out for shows but if a Canadian finals was to happen count me in. But like i said for this to happen guys that have the connections and those who compete will have to pull together will take all of us to make this happen. win or lose the experiance of a big show like Finals is worth it.
not to jump into the middle of all this but it would be nice to see more happening on the Canadian side of the boarder.i come out of the east side and to make a trip to the US would cost large.not saying i cant do it but most of my friends would never make such a long trip.most of us want to start making trips out to Toronto and Ontario to compete.
my friend and i put on most of the SPL shows in NS,NB,PEI,NF.and i will agree its hard to put together a good and solid show in which you can expect a good turn out...BUT if we don't focus more on are own country then all we are doing is making the shows in the US bigger and more solid,in which is giving them a better hold on the sport.

thay will not get all the $ back on a show . so how can thay do it ?
the show i was at today had 27 out at it today at $30 = $810 and to run a show will cost $2000 ,befor i hear it points give a ways and to run it like 1st,2nd,3...and so on

Canada has a huge problem when it comes to anything like this, we are a massive country with all our population on the east and west coasts. You cannot do 1 finals location to represent all of Canada fairly.
You cannot rotate the finals from van to T.O each year either because those are not even remotely close enough for either side to drive to they would be forced to attended the American finals that are 24 hours driving time closer.
Im from manitoba and driving to finals is a pretty big PITA if its in either province but thankfully you dont have many competitors from MB or SASK to bitch about where finals would be

If there was going to be a finals location in Canada it would have to be in an area where there largest concentration or competitors are. In this case that would be in the east coast. It may not be "fair" or what not to some but it is what it is and to have any chance of it succeeding it would need to be out east.
