Is the rest of the vehicle working fine? No voltage issues?

I ask out of curiosity but it's most likely a bum antenna. It happens.
yes vehicle is fine, other then the alarm and passenger door not locking properly(this is a manufacturer problem and is getting fixed)

$25.00 for a watch battery????????? Your friend got taken. I would head in there right stinking now and demand a refund. To me it sounds like an antenna issue as well. Take it off of the window, peel off the double sided sticky tape and get the model# off of it. Then call Jeff at Audio Heaven (I think he is a authorized dealer) and tell him you need a new antenna, model # XXXXX. He may even have one in stock to test it with right away. $25.00 for a battery.... WOW MAN....

You shouldn't have to take the antenna off. it will be printed on the body somewhere visible.
