2 channel input, for 4 channel driving? terminology.

Hi, I have a 4 channel amp, i have 2 rca's outputting from the head unit.

my amp says I can use a configuration called:
"2 channel input for 4 channel driving"

there is a switch to change from 2 channel mode, tri-mode, and 4 channel mode.

...if i use 2 channel mode, does that mean i can just use my 2 rca's from the head unit to the amp, and use all channels for 4 speakers?
Or does 2 channel mean i will be limited to use only 2 channels.

i'm concerned about 'installation', not power, type of speakers, sound quality, this is just an example.
thankyou.

Yes, the 2channel input for 4channel driving is to use one pair of RCAs and get sound out of all 4 channels.
