bass bumps fan belt squeaks??!
I don't think I need a new fan belt, I've replaced an older one in the past, but, whenever I start bumping my bass, to the point where it's almost cutting out my fan belt starts squeaking REALLY loud. I've had a fan belt problem before, usually squeaks when I stop then go, this is squeaking in the middle of 120 km/h and not stopping unless I rev higher...
has anyone ever heard of this, I don't see how my amp/sub/deck can affect my fan belt in any way? I mean its a matter of seconds, I turn the radio up, wait, start hearing LOUD squeaking noise, I turn music down STILL hear the LOUD squeaking noise, then I put my foot on the gas (pedal to metal) and it goes away... I'm rollin old *** 1989 volkswagen jetta, and the bass isnt that great as it is, I wanna hear it loud and its REALLY embarrassing when I bump sumthing really loud and can almost not hear the annoying squeak that everyone outside can def hear.
maybe ill change fan belt (again) and see where that takes me

Hey MistaSmokalot,
It may be a combination of a few things, like mentioned a loose/warn belt may be the culprit. Also, if your alternator is older the pulley may be getting warn or you have an alternator bearing/armature on it's way out. Usually a loud belt noise happens at lower rpms. If I may suggest that you have an active draw test done on the charging system, this will tell you if your alternator is 'on it's way out'.
Hope this helps!
Cheers,
Rino

being a vw mechanic for 3 yrs... n driving a half dozen vws... all of which ive abused to the point of doing exactly what your describing.... CHECK YOUR BELT ALIGNMENT! then... check the bearings on your alternator.... and as others have already mentioned, Replace the belt.. regaurdless of how worn it looks... after that kind of slippage.. the belt has been ground down in the pullys, it Will Need to be replaced.
