So I've got 2 subs in a box sitting in the trunk of my Alero (so, seperate trunk, not hatchback).
With the colder weather coming and already cold mornings, I'm beginning to wonder how my subs are doing in the winter.

Can the subs run in the winter? Should I take out the whole box?
Do I have to "Warm the subs" up by playing them on low for several minutes, then turning it up? Can I not turn it up at all?
If I want to run them, do I have to heat them with a portable heater or SOMETHING?

I'm really upset if I have to take out the box I just got installed not too long ago because suddenly, my trunk is cold.

What do the rest of you guys do???

let them warm up for a while before you **** on them.

I've never had a problem with doing that in the winter and have been through near -35 or so.

first, they have a rubber surround, which in cold would be tighter, so the sound will be different abit, and the rest is coils, like metal and , so I see no problem in playing your subs in the winter, just play them at low volume or turn them down on your deck.. just dont go for 100 db off the get go lol..

the same goes for speakers.. its just in a bigger scale.. play em' the cold won't hurt them, especially the cold mornings lol..

 

actually i use to do this every morning... nothing never happened... i have 2 kicker cvr... and the windows was full with ice. Usually i start the car let it heat up abit... the windows get warm... and play a low frequency very loud nd shake the ice offf... tht wut i use to do....

 

I can't tell you what a relief it is to hear all of this ... I thought I might have to take the subs out for the winter or something ... I would hate that.

I don't know if I'll go that far yet ... I'm just afraid I might pop the window if its that cold and there's ice on your windows, being shaken off by the bass lol

 

Focal Tech stated atleast 20 minutes at low to mid listening volume. After about 30-40 minutes they should of generated enough heat along with the vehicles heating system!

 

yea with my civic the back seats fold down so i would fold em down and that would get heat into the trunk so they would heat up faster... just my opinion.. don't have any subs atm still in the market... low on cash with my new pioneer DEH-6900UB head unit i got taday and will install shortly^^

but ya if your back seats fold down so u can get into your trunk do it to let heat in the trunk so your subs warm up faster...

 

That's a really good idea actually ... my Alero does that as well, so I might just do that when I know I'm going to want to run them ...

when u have noone in the back fold your seats down aswell.. lets more bass into the cabin from the trunk.. buddy of mine does it all the time and it sounds so much better with the seats down..
