Car Deck Display's die, inputs?

So long story short, i replaced an old pioneer 680mp which had a failed display (which i assumed was due to the flex cable). Today I replaced the deck with a new higher end kenwood x996 I beleive. The display worked fine when I left the deck loose for testing, but did not work when i pushed the deck in. The CD will still play but without display or control. I got a replacement deck and it worked fine while it was not pushed in, but after mounting it the display also did not work..

I think either im unlucky or pinching some wires when i push the deck in, what do you guys think? BTW the display works fine on a functional unit So i know for sure that the faceplate is fine. Constant and switched are also fine.

Thanks!

I would say ground, but if it was that more then likely the entire deck wouldn't work. Do you have the dimmer connected (the orange wire)? What other wires are hooked up? Does the deck work if you pull it out and leave it hanging?

a) installed in 1993 honda civic hatchback, and no illumination wire connected. The deck illumination would work before i pushed the deck into the dash, and it would not come back on if i pulled it out again.
b) I tested at the harness of the deck connector and everything is in check (I only use ground, constant and acc on the factory side of the harness).

I thought about it some more and the only thing i can think of, is that i may have damaged something pushing the deck into the dash, i did take the faceplate off but maybe i pushed to hard. I dunno
