is this a good amp for my sub?

i bought a 12 inch kicker comp vt for my sonoma. and i need to purchase an amp for it. someone told me that i should buy a monoblock so thats what im going to get. would the kicker dx 500.1 be descent for the sub or should i go with something else in the same price and power range ?

what vt version do you have? 2 ohm or 4 ohm? that amp delivers 280 watts @ 4 ohms, 550 @ 2 ohms and 1000 @ 1 ohm...your sub wants 400 watts rms. Nothing wrong with with the extra power as long as you don't over power your sub for too long, but a better match assuming you have a 2ohm version is the zx 400.1...which is probably cheaper as well. If you have the 4ohm model, then that amp will not be able to maximize performance as it will deliver 280 watts rms (may still be loud enough for you, but not really getting you money's worth out of either components).

well it's not optimum...the max rms of the sub is 400 watts, so ideally you want a 400 watts rms to use the sub to it's limit if you so desire, but...300 watts will more than make your sub perform, in fact the output difference between 300 watts and 400 watts to the same sub will barely be audible (you'd have to double the power to get a 3dB increase in output...mathematically anyway...so you'd need 600 watts to get that). So, enjoy your bass! a 1 dB difference in output is hardly worth thinking about.
