bad way of testing
you need to go to a bench with a 12-14.4 set up and a deck with speakers

what you have done is move the amp in a car that mite have sometime funny going on in it

if i power the deck up to a deck and play a 0 track so full deck to amp you will not have a hiss
should the amp be dead quiet though? yes

Old thread, I know. I bought the same amp and had the same problem. I think it's just a really poorly designed amp. I have the JBL 600.1 for my JBL subs, and haven't had a problem with it and it's over 4 years old.

if you read the initial post the amp is working perfectly, why should you have to achieve full power with the volume at 1/3 or 1/2? as long as you can max out the amp then you are using all the watts you paid for.
