How do you get 2 ohms from four 4 ohm voice coils? Unless you drive them with a stereo amp or don't use them all?...

If he drops into a qualified shop, he can have it all checked out before getting an amp to power them properly.

That wasn't his question . . . his question was about basic electronics. How is it possible to get two 4 ohm DVC subs to run at 2ohm? It is not electrically possible no matter how "qualified" a shop is. The possible final loads for his subs are:
16 ohm, 4 ohm & 1 ohm . . . unless he gets a stereo amp (but that's a different discussion) then he'll have 8 ohm & 2 ohm options

He said that he's got dual 4 ohm voice coils. That's a 1 ohm load in parallel where I come from. Therefore a 1 ohm stable amp would do justice to them. As for why they were wired at 4 ohm's I guess they had a stereo amp running them.
To be sure, putting them on a meter is always suggested prior to testing an amp on them.

Yes they were and are, but, some were made in a dual 2 ohm configuration.
Maltesechicken is correct with the electrical information as to what possibilities there are with a dual 4 ohm system. To be sure, always check first. It's the inexpensive way.
