impedance and power question

sooo i've got a question for a new "build" i'm planning. it involves using a head unit to power some speakers, and basically i want to make sure i don't blow it up, so here it goes...

the internal amp on the deck can only put out as much as it can put out, in my case 22 watts rms x 4 @ 4 ohms as per the manual

so lets break that down into each speaker. now, if i have one 4 ohm speaker, i get 22 wrms to one speaker. now say i were to connect two 8 ohm speakers in parallel to create one 4 ohm "speaker", i still get 22 wrms, but only 11 rms give or take to each 8 ohm speaker, right?

now for the big question, if i were to take four 4 ohm speakers, and wire two pairs in series to create two 8 ohm speakers, and then connect those in parallel to create one 4 ohm speaker, i still get 22 wrms to it, and just 5.5 watts per speaker, right?

my understanding is that the impedance (codename: resistance) will determine the amount of power pulled from the amp, or in this case the head unit, so, as long as i make sure the impedance is within the safe operation parameters of the deck, i'm in the clear. am i right?

correct.

you can safely run any head unit on the market into a 2ohm load as well. just gets warmer and distorts easier.

Two ohms on a HU??? I'd tread very lightly there...

Why would you tread lightly. pretty much anyone with a cherokee or caravan runs their HU's at 2ohm, the 6x9's in the door and 5 1/4's on the dash.

Almost every speaker company out there makes 2ohm speakers. I've been a pro installer quite a long time and I have yet to see a blown IC in a head unit from running 2ohm speakers, or a pair of 4ohm speakers off a head unit.

There's NO advantage to it at all. but it won't blow the HU.

well with what i have now it creates two 4 ohm and two 2 ohm speakers, but i wanna change the 2 ohm to 4 ohm beacuse this setup should not have been a strain on my previous deck but the illumination used to flicker all the time, especially with my extra speakers connected.

the only reason why i say two 4 ohms first is because the two 6x9''s i switched in the back read 4 ohms when i meter them. apparently the deck can do two @ 4 ohms and one @ 2 ohms, or four @ 4 ohms, so the four is what i'm aiming for.

oh and big thanks for your help

why are you wanting to hook up 4 x 4 ohm speakers? you wont get much better sound... Stick to one good pair.. or find yourself a cheap amp on ebay or so...
