Light on Apline SPX-17REF crossover

I have a set of SPX-17REF and SPR-17C's powered by an Alpine PDX 4.100 amp. The gain is set to 0.5v. I just noticed today that when I get the volume up pretty high (about 52 or so on some songs out of 62) there is a small white light on the of the SPX's crossover that seems to pulsate. Everything still sounds good and nothing seems to be distorting. What does this light mean? There is nothing about this mentioned anywhere online or in the manual.

flashing light = DC electricity going to the tweeter.

Why is your gain so high?

Sounds like tweeter protection.

It is indeed tweeter protection. Turn the gain down before you damage something.

i had a set of the type x 6.5s prior to my cdts and they could only play at very moderate levels before that tweeter protection would kick in. i believe they are really intended for sq at low volume levels. im still unsure if i liked them or not. and as the others have noted u have the gain way to high. should be at the 2 or 4 volt setting i would assume depending on your deck

they just like clean power. I've installed a couple sets, on with a PPI PC2200 runing them and they had NO issues taking power, provided the signal was clean.

Listening to Chop Suey(system of a down) at low volume set off the light. MP3's usually clip easier than WAV and some music just has clipped waves in the recording. But gain at 0.5V is asking for trouble.

What can I do to avoid the tweeter protection? I set the gain the way it said in the manual for the amp. I brought the gain a bunch though and set the tweeter level on the crossover from 0 to -6. With both regular CD's and stuff from the iPod I still get tweeter protection. It gets pretty loud before the light turns on but not as loud as I'd like. My deck is a Pioneer DEH-4000UB with 4V pre-outs.
