how exactly do you go about wiring 1 mono amp to 2 subs

i want to run the subs at 4 ohms so do i wire the subs in series or 2 seperate wires

also how do you change the resistence of an amp?

(ex amp is 500 rms at 4 ohms or 900 at 2 ohms)

 

what impedance are the subs? 2, 4 ohms? single, dual voice coil?

To put it bluntly though, parallel halves the impedance of the speakers if they are both the same. Series doubles it.

Parallel = each speaker hooked to the same + and - of the amp


Series = one speaker is hooked to the +, the second speaker's + is hooked to the first speaker's - and then the second speaker's - is hooked to the amp's -

(AMP+) -> (+)speaker(-) -> (+)speaker(-) -> (AMP-)

Okay, if you want to run two dual voice coil speakers and get 4 ohms out of them you can either wire voice coils in parallel and the speakers in series or vice versa.

dual 4ohm voice coil rigged in series = 8 ohms.
-two of those wired in parallel to each other = 4 ohms

dual 4ohm voice coil rigged in parallel = 2 ohms
-two of those wired in series to each other = 4 ohms.

So you should get dual 4 ohm subs.
