Setting head unit fader?

I have some 5.25 speakers in the front and 6x9. I recently installed a subwoofer in the trunk. Anyways, I usually set my fader to the front 3+ or a bit less. Because the rears will overpower and I can tell more sound is coming out from the rears than the fronts making it feel uneven. And by doing this I feel I can turn the volume a bit less before the speakers disort. Before, I would have the volume say 25 and it would feel as though the same is too much in the rear, and when I even it out, the speakers in the front can go a bit louder before the rears start to disort.

Anyways, with the fader set to 3 and the subwoofer hooked up to rca's. I've noticed when I set the fader to the front, the subwoofer gets quieter. So does the amp/headunit see the rca output as rear speakers? So usually I leave the head unit fader to 3 and turn the amp gain all the way to the max.

What do you guys think of this? Also is it good to have the subwoofer facing upwards towards the roof of the trunk?

your head unit probably doesn't have a dedicated subwoofer out so it's hooked to the rears. Alot of head units with only 2 pair of RCA's has the rear programmable as a subwoofer output. What Head unit you have?

Well I know that the rca is not a subwoofer output,
it's just a rca lineout I guess? It plugged right in the back of the head unit. And this headunit only had 1 rca output.

So with the fader +3, and setting the amp gain all the way up. It evens out??? I don't think I get any clipping or anything, though I am not sure what it sounds like.
