Angry short circuit - help!

hey, i just made a big mistake and need help please. I recently took my amp/sub box out and when reinstalling I accidently hooked up backwards and I was sure it was right and it kept blowing fuse. so i put bigger fuse in cuz I thought it was surely in right - i just took it out. anyway it is wired into the interior light circuit, and now I dont have interior lights or keyless entry and the running/dash lights will not turn OFF unless i take fuse out. what could this be? relay? to what? its a 2004 lancer. Thanks for any experience in this situation!

what the hell are you doing wiring an amp to anything but directly to the battery?

My guess is you've damaged the fuse panel on your car somehow now.

Angry yep

Yeah I think you are right. And if I were you I would not buy any 2004 lancers cuz its going in for trade. I found melted wires under dash. It was not wired into interoir light circuit, it was wired into stock stereo power, for some reason I thought it was interior lights cuz they went off right away. But the stock stereo fuse is right next to interior light fuse so I assume it burnt them both. Moral of the story is to take it to "best buy"" and have them install anything and then leave it alone, then you can blame someone else for stupid mistakes. I fried my fricken car. Oh well its got 85,000 miles and its time for upgrade anyway. 2008 lancers look pretty cool and you can get paddle shifter. Or else its a new wiring harness I guess, I dont even want to think about it. Thanks anyway!

relay?

I've just been told that it might just be a relay for the keyless entry, when I shorted it it burnt the relay and then that switch(relay) quit working so the running lights/dash/interior light stay on(or flash and cant relay off) like when you hit the unlock button. So I've replaced the burnt wires which was not easy under this tiny dash(it took me all evening), and going to get a new keyless entry relay tomorrow and hopefully were back in business. And then off to ""circuit city"" for an install job

Now that's funny !! How about this for a moral to the story ... "read the manual" or "do the tiniest bit of research, then install electronics correctly". Or how about this one ..... "when a fuse blows, find the problem. Don't just keep putting in bigger fuses".

No point throwing gas on this flame job...

It is OK to ask or even PAY for installation work, it prevents expensive problems

Angry thats funny

hey you guys are funny - I wired directly to the stock stereo power wire and I had three DIFFERENT plug type connectors to the amp power - 1) ground, 2) 12 V power 3)remote turn on power. But I did not realize that two of them actually fit into each other and by design they should not have, I had just taken my amp out hours before and put back in the same way I thought, and I only went from 15amp fuse to 20amp fuse and that was enough! So I think maybe even tho I should be driving a lancer I DONT WANT TO ANYMORE! Back to Chevy - Should have never left - A Chevy wouldn't have melted with just a five amp difference in fuse resistance! Anyways thanks for the ridicule!

Just poking fun at ya !!

As far as Chevy's go. They can't stand any increase in fuse size either. Some of the time they can't even keep from melting the wires with the stock fuses.

My Caprice's headlight harness and main underhood fuse block are prime examples of GM cutting costs. They regularly are found melted on completely stock cars.

Good luck.

Cool getting poked

yeah I figured I would get a lot of that - it was a very stupid mistake!
I would just suggest that when its 1:00 AM and you want to bump your tunes and cant wait till you get to a place where there is enough light to see what you are doing, JUST WAIT! its not worth the consequences. well i'm leaving work now and will soon be checking if i can find the keyless entry relay and hopefully that is bad and not to expensive. I think they are just a set of two switches that when you apply power to one(closed switch) the other(open) closes. so I just have to find a relay that either has continuity between all four posts or none at all. Correct?
Thanks and Rock On!
