Just recently my system has been bugging me, at high volumes my HU will restart itself, so I started some troubleshooting, and found out my interior speakers are causing the problem. Weird thing is, I can turn the volume up (a bit) louder (up to 33 or 34) when I put the fader all the way to the front, OR all the way to the back. When the fader is at 0, the volume can only go to about 28-29 then speakers cut and HU restarts. I installed everything myself, and I don't *think* any problems with wiring or ground, however I remember putting my front 2 speakers in REALLY quick, but they seemed to work fine.
I wanted to configure my amp settings as well, and I couldnt be bothered by my speakers, I just left them at 28 29 while configuring my amp, but while I was playing with settings, the HU restarted itself (after a big bass hit), I was really confused, then I check my HU and its actually going off then on, off then on, off then on, it wont power on or off!? The car was running, so I turn it off, and try to restart my car, and my car wont start lol. I charged battery for an hour (and started it back up) and havent touched my music settings since (big waste of an hour sound checking!), but this shouldn't happen should it? Could my speakers be cutting because of wiring (which I dont think is the problem) or is it my battery; or is it just my car (1983 Jetta), I mean everything is so old in it, and I'm running 600wamp, 1 mtx 12", and Infinity Reference 3.5" 2-Way Speakers (75 Watts (RMS), 225 Watts (Peak))JVC 2007 hu (which was bought used). the alternator is oldd and I dont wanna break the car,but I also dont want crappy sound.
I was also told to try running HU power directly to battery...but i really dont wanna take my HU out and do ALL of that unless i absolutly have to

Sounds like maybe a short somewere on speaker leads, or maybe load being driven is less than recommended 4 ohms of head unit. Seems to me the head unit is going into protect to avoid burning out.

well my speakers are 2 ohm speakers... and ive saudered everything except for the front 2 speakers, but like i said, if i put the fader to the front they are LOUDER than when fader is balanced, just not loud enuf for my liking..

I'd invest in a nice 2 or 4 channel amp to power your speakers. Sounds like your deck is not liking the 2 ohm speaker load.

Are you driving 4 2 ohm speakers off hu? if so that pretty much explains you problem....

and I know you guys are the experts and everything, but I somewhat dont know why i need an amp, Ive never needed an amp before...before I had the same (2 ohm) speakers and they actually bumped till they blew..

didnt mean to be harsh but here is the just of it, amps will handle 2 ohm loads head units for the most part dont like it, some will do it but most will crap out and dont be mad i meant to use this one

There may be a few things happening to cause this problem. Those Volkswagens are tough vehicles, but the older ones are prone to alternator and grounding issues. The fact your battery is no longer holding a proper charge is questionable. Have a look at your charging system, battery and battery connections to make sure everything is good.
