This will protect you from that happens down the road from the install how?

I would fuse / Breaker @ each battery within a first foot of the power terminal - if its front battery to rear battery - a fuse / Breaker at both ends..

Agreed, also fuse the positive coming off the second battery to the amps, within a foot of the battery.

Batteries hold a charge and will discharge it anyway they can. I would rather spend $20 more on some breakers or fuses than possibly kill myself, or worse, destroy my car.
