Altering DD's suggested box plans?

I want to make sure I wring every ounce of deebeez out of my new 2512 but prefer a front port/front sub configuration, sealed from the trunk. If I keep the internal volume of the box and port correct and avoid a cubed enclosure do you think it would hurt performance if I move the port?
http://www.ddaudio.com/tech-support/...box-plans.aspx (the link specific to the 12 doesn't seem to be working but you can see them all here)
Thanks guys.

I doubt DD applied any science to where the vent was and how it would affect the box.

Thanks guys. Because the side walls aren't as long as the front & rear I had to add a couple inches of port but I ended up with a few extra cubic inches of port as a result, lowering the tunning (of 40hz) which is fine by me :-) Alternately I may extend the port out of the box.

Is there not a front port design at the bottom of that link?
