Box design opinions?

So i need some opinions on an idea i just had, but please remember im a sub box noob

i drive a wagon and under the trunk floor there's this storage tray (pictured below. All the sizing is in inches (d stands for depth). The two parts on the left and right... just ignore them they are the more shallow parts of the trunk.

So heres my thinking, bear with me. i want to place a 10" sub in the middle where that kind of round recession is located, so far it seems to work, but i'd still prefer to do a little test fit. The semi-round (its like a cylinder i guess) will be fiberglassed, the rest of the box will be done with 3/4 MDF. basically the box will be very shallow but wide.

So here's where i come to a little problem. if i use the whole space i will come up with a box with internal depth of only 3" and the volume of 0.6 ft3. I seems like it would work, especially if i fill it with that fiber. However, will the fact that the box is rather flatish and shallow play any effect?

And here's another problem. if i use the entire depth of that storage tray, the face of the sub will be right against the tray cover (which also acts as the trunk floor)... doesnt seem that it's such a good idea....

Solution to that would be to cut a hole in the trunk floor (tray cover) and relpace it with some kind of a metal mesh with fabric stretched over it... would that work?

I have a feeling that the image in my head doesnt transfer into writing all that well... let me know if this needs more clarification

thanks

0.6cf3 use a sealed 8" unless your 10" doesn't take up more than .010 so your volume remains .59ish. 3" is shallow so look for a shallow woofer. If space is an issue get a DD 1508, a 500W amp and a 1cf3 ported box.

your best bet is going to be a shallow mount subwoofer. the idea seems to be great, as i have seen many setups like this done (usually its the spare-tire well). only thing you'll have to take into consideration is possibly making a false floor that also acts as the subwoofers baffle for mounting.
