box opinions

I have 2 '05 kicker 15l5's. Powered will be supplied by a rockford t1001bd. I am thinking of two box designs. One is 9 cubic feet, tuned to 32 hertz with 143 inches of port area, the other is 12 cubic feet, tuned to 30 hertz with about 155 inches of port. Which will be better for daily driving, I listen to mostly rap music. My main concern is the sound quality difference between the two. Will the 12 cubic foot box sound worse than the 9? And do the designs have enough/too much port area?

those sound like pretty huge boxes.... Id run the T/S in winisd and design a box from there... my guess is the boxes you are thinking of will give you a relativly low Q for unaccurate bass but with low extention....

I dunno tho, you'd have to run the #s... most ppl try to keep Q around .707 unless they have a specific reason to do otherwise...

Ya, I talked with a guy at kicker tech support and he said that my designs were pretty huge. I think I'm gonna bring my design down to 8 cubes at 33 hertz. Probably do 50-60 inches of port per driver then.

I don't want to do a wall, this is my daily driver. I have used winsid before, but with the kicker paramteres I always get a weird graph no matter what tuning frequency or box size, hence the dilemma with a box design. I am going to run the 8 foot box i mentioned earlier, and test that out and put up pics when Im done. Worst case scenario, if i dont like it, i will just redesign.
