box material questions

hey all. i got my sons 2011 mistubishi lancer in my shop that im puttin a pretty insane(IMO) system in it for him. he's int he army and over in afghanistan right now and asked if i could do it. of course i would!
i got the dimensions all set for the subs(2-re audio XXX 12"). plannin on MDF construction. now heres what i brought to his attention: a plexigass/acrylic top on this box with some LED's in there would look pretty sweet!! he likes the idea, but im wonderin if the plexi/acrylic would change the sound quality.
any thoughts?

as long as it's thick enough. Those subs will be moving a lot of air so I'd recommend at least 1" thick and keep the windows as small as possible (12"x12" if possible)

yeah, had 1" planned. they're quite heavy subs.
forgive me for my ignorance, but what do ya mean when ya say windows?

Sorry, I never seen that you meant the whole top would be plexi. Disregard the window statement. I'd do 1" and make sure to do separate chambers for the subs (whether it's a ported or sealed enclosure) just so you have added support in the center.
