Controlling sanding dust

Just wondering if anybody has some advice on how to control all the dust when sanding filler and such.

My dad doesn't enjoy all the dust I've created on my last few projects and basically told me no more sanding in his shop.

With over a foot of snow sitting outside now, sanding outside isn't really an (enjoyable) option.

I was thinking about making a small box with some poly and maybe a shop vac hooked up to it to sand in. Just big enough to fit small projects and enclosures. Not sure how effective that would really be though..

if the shop is big enough build a small room in a corner and sand in there and just make a hole in the wall to stick the shop vac hose in to suck out the dust?? or cut a hole in the wall big enough for decent size vent fan and sand over near there and it should pull the dust out for you.

Make a sanding table.

For parts that are too big, get used to holding your sander in one hand and your shop vac in the other.

You can also consider making a shower curtain like arrangement with sheet poly to section off part of the shop to contain the dust to one area.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Did some brainstorming and might end up building a tabletop downdraft table for kicks to see if it helps.

Plenty of wood laying around the shop just need to pick up some perforated wallboard as a top and start messing around.

Even just to isolate a small corner of the shop with some poly as suggested might help.

Thanks!
